Oven Air Fryer French Fries
French fries are undoubtedly one of the most beloved snack foods around the world. Today, I am going to walk you through a step-by-step guide for making mouthwatering French fries using an air fryer.
How To Make Oven Air Fryer French Fries
Ready to indulge in crispy, golden French fries without the guilt of deep-frying? This guide will walk you through the steps of making air fryer-style fries right in your oven.
1. Prepare Your Potatoes
Russet potatoes are ideal for French fries due to their high starch content, which results in a crispy exterior and fluffy interior.
You want to start by washing your potatoes thoroughly and scrubbing the skins to remove any dirt. I like to peel the skin off from my french fries but if you prefer you can leave the skin on.
2. Cut Into 1/4-inch Sticks
After your potatoes are cleaned and peeled, it’s time to cut them into sticks.
Make sure they are cut into consistent 1/4-inch fries for even cooking. This is essential, as uneven sizes can lead to some fries being overcooked while others remain undercooked and soggy.

A lot of people say that you should soak your potatoes in cold water for a while before you air fry them to get that crispy texture but I do not ever soak mine and they always come out a nice crispy brown.
3. Lightly Oil The Potatoes
In a large bowl, lightly coat your cut french fries with extra virgin olive oil. Avoid over-oiling as the air fryer requires just a minimal amount of oil to achieve that crispy texture.
The key here is to ensure each fry gets a light but even coat. You don’t want to season your fries quite yet. Wait to season them when they come out of the air fryer.
4. Preheat And Arrange In The Air Fryer Basket
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F. While it is preheating you can arrange your oiled fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
Make sure not to overcrowd them, as this can affect the evenness of the cooking. Space them out as much as you can. If you have too many you might have to cook them in batches.
5. Cook
Different air fryers may have different cooking times but I cook mine in my Brevile Air Fryer for 20-25 minutes.
Keep an eye on your fries and give them a little shake or use a spatula to move them around about halfway through. This ensures that all sides cook evenly and become crispy.
6. Season
After 20-25 minutes, check your fries. Once they are golden brown and have a crispy texture transfer them to a serving bowl, and while they’re still hot, sprinkle kosher salt, and freshly cracked pepper.
My little secret ingredient is I like to add some freshly grated Parmesan Reggiano over them for extra delicious flavor.
Serve immediately with a side of ketchup for dipping. There you have it—crispy, delicious, and somewhat guilt-free French fries made in your air fryer!
