How to make French Toast

Making French toast is so simple, offers a ton of great flavor, and has a smell that will get anyone out of bed in the morning. A few ingredients and a few steps are all it takes.

1. Prep

french toast for one ingredients

I always encourage people to start every recipe by gathering all of their ingredients so that they are prepared and can focus on the cooking.

So go ahead and grab out 2 eggs, about a 1/2 cup of milk, 2 slices of whatever bread you are using (I am using a nice thick-sliced white bread), cold butter, salt, and cinnamon.

2. Mix the ingredients

mixing the french toast ingredients in a bowl.

Start by getting your egg mixture ready to go. You want to crack your eggs into a bowl. Be sure not to get shells in the bowl. Add in your milk and whisk it with the eggs until they are incorporated.

Sprinkle about 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and a pinch of salt into the egg mixture and whisk that together.

3. Preheat your pan

preheating the pan

Get your frying pan heated up on a medium-low. Once it’s starting to warm up add your cold butter to the pan and let it melt. Now you are ready to cook the French toast.

I prefer to use a stainless steel frying pan. I do not use any non-stick pans.

4. Dunk and cook

cooking the French toast for one.

Dunk one slice of bread at a time into the egg mixture enough to coat both sides of the bread.

Once you have dredged your bread slice, add it to your pan. You should hear a little sizzle when you add it in and that will tell you that your pan was good and hot.

Let them cook for a couple of minutes and then flip each slice. Once both sides are good and browned pull the pan off the heat.

5. Serve and enjoy

Plate your French toast and drizzle pure maple syrup over the top and enjoy! Easy delicious breakfast is served.

Using pure maple syrup is really the way to go! In my opinion, it’s the only way to go. Now if your big breakfast fan you need to check out my scrambled eggs recipe.

What bread is best for french toast

You can pretty much use any bread that you like. I prefer thick white bread if possible. You can really rich it up using brioche bread!

You can use wheat bread or say sourdough bread, they all taste great. I would not use rye bread, that would taste a little funk for sure.

Simply dredge your bread into the egg mixture not soaking it and then make sure your pan is preheated when you add the French toast. This will prevent the middle of the toast from soaking up a bunch of eggs that won’t get cooked through.

You can use anything that will add a creaminess to it. Some people use cream or half and half. Really whatever you have at home will work. Coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk will all work as a dairy-free option as well.
